IoT based Accident Alert & Real Time Vehicle Tracking System

The project proposes a IoT enabled GPS and GSM based accident alert and real time vehicle tracking system that tracks the vehicle and sends the tracking data (latitude and longitude) to the IoT cloud platform over the internet where it shows the pin point location on a map where the vehicle is met with an accident. Also the system sends the location details in the form of latitude and longitude over a SMS to the authorized person. This system proves very beneficial for transport and travel companies as they can now keep track of their vehicles.

This project IoT based Accident Alert & Real Time Vehicle Tracking System using GSM & GPS is a very low cost and an innovative system that alerts when accident occurs to the vehicle and also monitors its position continuously and sends real-time data to the data centre or the authorized person. For this, the system uses GPS receiver (for tracking the vehicle position), GSM modem (for sending data to the cloud and the user) interfaced to the microcontroller. GSM modem with a SIM card implements the communication technique as in a regular cell phone. The system makes use of AVR family microcontroller, ultrasonic sensor. The system is powered by a dc 5V.

The cloud platform facilitates visualizing map option to view the current location of the vehicle in various time stamps to the data centre monitoring it. It gives a graphical representation of the vehicle position with the complete address. Also the data is pushed to the cloud platform in regular intervals for further analytics. Thus, the system helps the authorities or the user to know the current vehicle position when met with an accident from remote place so that immediate rescue operations can be taken.
